A website built fifteen years ago featuring outdated file formats of the busy Earth Sciences department at Liverpool University was no longer fit for purpose. Callia Web was asked to create a new website to encompass the many written and video resources held in the Geo Hub. It was important for the website to have a cohesive look and feel in its design as an educational resource to be used by both teachers and students of schools and universities.
Another essential requirement was that the departmental staff of the university could easily access and update the website as well as upload new resources.
GeoHub and Callia Web worked together to restructure and organise the hundreds of resources and categories to create a more accessible and user-friendly navigation experience.
A blog with valuable links to outside organisations, and a Teachers’ Network section were also added.
Graphic elements and a sophisticated search function were introduced to help guide users. The organisation’s logo and brand colours were reworked to provide a stronger brand identity to complement the website.
We ensured that it worked on different devices, especially important so that it could be used by students and teachers field-working on smaller screens. A newsletter sign-up option meant that visitors to the website can easily subscribe and stay in touch with the department to receive news on their courses as well as updates on their resources.
The new Geo Hub is a content-rich website succeeding in its goal to provide an accessible and up-to-date educational resource.
